The Sociological Prospective// Imagination
Sociology and the traffic jam:
-The further we go up, the better view we have to look at what is going on.
- Our goal is to look at our own lives as we are looking at them from above.

Sociology: The systematic study of human society and social behavior, from large-scale
institutions and mass culture to small groups and individual interactions.
Key elements/ tenants of sociology
1. Society creates reality.
-every society will create its own reality.
-Us: more education means more $ you think you are entitled to earn.
- It’s a way we sanction inequality.
2. We can study society scientifically
3. Cultures differ across time & space.
4. Individuals and society are inseparable
5. Institutions are inherently conservative
-Marriage
- Politics
6. Social life is dynamic.
Social imagination: The ability to connect individual lives to the historical forces that
shape them.
