Absolute poverty- severe deprivation of basic human needs (food, safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, health, shelter, education, and information) Relative poverty- lack the minimum amount of income needed in order to maintain the average standard of living in the society in which they live. Fpl- a measure of income issued every year by the department of health and. Federal poverty levels are used to determine your eligibility for certain programs and benefits, including savings on marketplace health insurance, and medicaid and chip coverage. The fpl is calculated by totalling the amount it would cost on average to live in the us set as a yearly income. Issues- it is relative to the us as a whole, not relative to each society people live. The main objective was to reduce the # of uninsured in a budget neutral manner. Expand health insurance coverage to about 24 million people through private and public sector initiatives.
