Serial Position Effect

Novelty Effect
o A novel (unrelated) concept should be in the middle of a serial
o Forms two shorter serials
o you can learn two short serials better than one long serial
Proactive Inhibition
o Learning initial concepts in a serial will inhibit capacity to learn content
that follows
Retroactive Inhibition
o Learning the last symbols, dates, or names in a serial will interfere with
remembering what preceded them
