Anthropology: anthropology-the wholistic study of human kind. It looks at past societies and their culture: cultural anthropology-focuses on human beings and their cultures of the recent past. Focuses on living cultures: linguistics-looks at how languages are structured, evolve, and relationships to its culture, biological anthropology- the study of human evolution and variation. Microevolution: small changes in frequency, occur over short periods of time, new species does not arise. Macroevolution: large changes, new species evolves, takes a lot of time. Natural selection: darwin"s theory proposed it, natural selection- a nonrandom process where individuals are better adapted to their environment, adaptations- changes in physical structure, function, or behavior, ex: black and white mice. White mice adapt to be black to hide from predators. Mutation: mutation- a change in dna, affect how proteins are made in the body that lead to physical or behavioral traits, always random, most mutations are neutral. Gene flow: gene flow- two populations breed with each other.
