It attempts to understand individual behavior in its social context. Deindividualization: loss of constraints, loss of self-awareness and evaluation apprehension, ex: mobs, rioting, looting, bullying (in person or online) Social cognition (chapter 3): how we think about the social world. Point of the ted talk: presence of the third, even if no one wants it, can change how many pick either of the other two. It is our autopilot : controlled processing (explicit, reflective, deliberate, effortful, conscious, requires us to actively, why do we have two levels? think through things. It is useful, we can get more done in less time if some of the things we do are automatic and don"t require our time and energy. It is suggested that our decision making is better when we are thinking/processing automatically: ex: poster study. People who saw and then were distracted before picking their poster were more satisfied with their posters.
