Document Summary
These traders had either captured the slaves through raids along the coast or from purchasing and trading with local african slave traders. Most africans that were enslaved by african traders were captured after battles between tribes or simply were kidnapped. In north america, settlers used slave for the hard, painstaking process of crop production. These crops were mainly tobacco then later cotton. Indians were slaves at the same time weren"t as good of slaves as africans. The slave owners provided the slaves with life"s bare necessities and would maintain this care as a method of control. Many owners wanted to be buried next to their slaves and this gives testament to a family structure in america"s slave- owning society. At first, white slave traders simply went on kidnapping raids, but this proved too dangerous for the europeans. Instead, they established hundreds of forts and trading stations along africa"s west coast.
