Karl von linne (1707- 1778: came up with system that we use for taxonomy, he was a creationist as were all of the scientists of his time period. Latinized his own name: carolus linnaeus: principle of the fixity of species- he thought that species were immutable or unchangeable following their creation. All species created by god, and species were nchangeable: he thought that differences within species were not essential to biology. There were essential features to being a certain species. He came up with a list of traits that classified one as a human. You cannot change the essence of an organism. Theory of the inheritance of acquired characteristics (theory of use and disuse). There are 4 basic parts of his theory. The organism is always changing to its environment. Ex: giraffe have elongated necks, but they have the same number of vertebrae in their cervical region.
