Anthropology- study of culture in a broad sense: cultural (living)--patterns of learned behaviors, physical/biological (prehuman, human variation, primates) Archaeological record- all the information at a given site; everything available for study: everything that is at a site (pollen, soil, water, etc) temporal domain- first true human to present. Hypothesis testing- testing using multiple hypotheses to try and prove something and when more evidence is in place that either reinforces or disproves, reevaluated. What does history rely on? written record: often looks at only the bigger figures of records. Jobs: curiosity, adventure, explains problems, explains present, history. Crm- cultural resource management: must be an archaeological assessment before building over an area. John lloyd stephens -discovered copan--stone temples: enormous city, bought copan for from locals. Incidents of travel in yucatan: written about the discovery of copan, well-received, very descriptive and illustrated the adventures of stephens.
