Document Summary

Section 03: 12:30 (not 12:40) pm-1:20 pm, m t w 102 williams. 364 life sciences annex (ph: 578-9082; email: baronh1@lsu. edu) Course overview: in this course, you will learn everything there is to know about biology just kidding. The course is designed to give you a solid background in the basics of biology. We will discuss the scientific method as a theme throughout the course and you will be expected to formulate falsifiable hypotheses, predictions, identify controls, think critically of experimental designs, and especially, interpret experiment results. The course is split into four main categories: ecology, evolution, inheritance (genetics), and cell biology. Entire courses and countless books and manuscripts are taught in subdisciplines of each of these topics, so we will not be going into a great amount of depth into any given topic. I will, however, bring in current ideas and hot topics like genomics, epigenetics, and climate change to keep the material fresh, relevant, and interesting.
