BIOL 1208 : Final Lab Report
Document Summary
This figure represents the average time of bovine blood hemolysis using different hydroxyl groups of propanes. In figure 1. as the number of hydroxyl groups and molecular weight increased, the amount of time for blood to lyse increases. Propanol took the least amount of time to hemolyze. Bovine blood, and propanetriol took the longest time to lyse bovine blood. Furthermore, the standard deviation line of hydroxyl group 3 is statistically significant when compared to hydroxyl group 1 and hydroxyl group 2, but there is no difference between hydroxyl group 1 and hydroxyl group 2. Hemolysis is when red blood cells burst when placed in hypotonic solutions. However, the time it takes for blood to lyse is related to the size of the solute. The smaller the molecule size, the easier it can penetrate the lipid bilayer (wischusen et al. , 2011).
