Document Summary

What role would a methanogen play in helping. A cooperative relationship between microorganisms to degrade a compound. It can ferment butyrate in the presence of a methanogen. The methanogen uses up the waste h2 and gives back nad+ and fad+ Atp is generated by glycolysis by substrate level phosphorylation. The pyruvate is reduced in order to regenerate nad+ so glycolysis can continue: describe alcohol fermentation. Alcohol fermentation takes pyruvate and produces nad+, co2, and ethanol. Humans use it to get silly: describe homolactic fermentation of glucose. Pyruvate is reduced to form lactate and nad+. Why yes it does: describe heterolactic fermentation of glucose. Glucose is reduced to co2, ethanol, and lactate. It is independent of glycolysis and atp is produced. Leuconostoc does this: compare and contrast homolactic and heterolactic fermentation. Both are done in anaerobic conditions and yield lactate. Homolactic goes through glycolysis and yields 2 lactate and 2 nad+ per glucose.
