BIOL 2160 : Test 1
Document Summary
Physiology vs. anatomy: think about different tools in a toolbox, each thing has a certain shape for each function, anatomy= what it is, physiology= what it does and how. The four major cell/tissue types: neurons/nervous tissue (motor neurons, cortical interneurons, etc. ). Specialized for sending and receiving information: sending information in the form of electric impulses that travel along neurons, muscle cells/muscle tissue (cardiac myocytes, skeletal muscle, etc. ). Specialized for contraction: facilitates movements, skeletal= striated, attached to bone, voluntary, cardiac= only in heart, striated, involuntary, smooth= involuntary, found surrounding blood vessels, make up organs, non striated, all contract and get smaller which allows movement. Similarities between nervous and muscle cells/tissues: neurons and muscle cells and tissue do not divide. The four major cell/tissue types: epithelial cells/epithelial tissue (intestinal epithelial cells, etc. ). Found on organs, glands, and lining body cavities: connective tissue cells (bone cells, blood cells, fat cells, etc. )
