Document Summary

Not a legitimate myth, but a male fantasy. Pygmalion was a sculptor, but he was very lonely and couldn"t find a woman. He carved a statue of a beautiful woman and he fell in love with it. On the festival day of aphrodite, he went to her temple and sacrificed. He said a prayer, and aphrodite made the statue come to life. Greek myths are supposed to make sense out of actual experience, but no one had ever had an experience like this. About a man who finds the perfect woman. Not an effort to cope with reality, but an escape from reality. My fair lady based off of the play pygmalion. Disclaimer: not a greek myth, but a near-eastern legend on which a greek myth was based. It was changed and adjusted into a myth. The almond tree put out gleaming white blossoms and with them along came nana (a nymph).
