Homer- poet, wrote the illiad and the odyessy. Illiad- poem about a war that was started because helen of troy was stolen by paris from greece, people felt that homer made this all up. Heinrich schliemann- german who came from class merchant family, he basically taught himself ancient history and had a passion for the stories of homer. In 1850, he went to cali for the gold rush. He doesn"t dig for gold himself, but sells shovels, pans etc. for digging and made a fortune! He used his fortune to pursue his dream found the king of troy"s treasure and told the press. We now know that he actually of discovering the city of troy. People thought he was crazy; they thought troy was a made up city. When he goes out, he finds this hill and when his workers start digging they find massive walls. When he starts digging himself, and finds gold!
