Document Summary

Mao zedong was a communist leader who focused on the peasants not the workers. After the chinese civil war resumed in 1945, mao easily won. China shifted from nationalist to communist, though they do not follow the soviet model. The great leap forward in 1957 encouraged the production of steel in citizen"s backyard. The end result was horrible steel, wasted years, and famine. Mao became discredited and other officials ran the country. To regain authority, mao launched the cultural revolution in 1967. This lead to three years of chaos as mobs harassed professionals, teachers, artists, and religious people; they claimed revolutionary knowledge was better than professional. Wilson"s 14 points were announced in 1918 as a plan to make peace in europe. They covered anti colonialism, free trade, free poland, league of nations, and most important national self-determination. This applied to eastern europe; if they saw themselves as a state they should be a state.
