Archaic greece- when we see greek society emerge in 800 bc-500bc. Greek is not an ethnicity but a cultural thing so they practiced greek cultural form. Classical greece- both are polises(city states)there were two opposing states that form around the same time. They both control a great deal of territory and they have a war leader. Kings can be replaced so they king had to work with the council or bad things would happen to him and his family. The assembly just voted for or against something and they council is where all the power lied. Sparta- (elephant) a whale fighting an elephant had a great army: unique the city state was sparta but they controlled a territory called laenonia and they were on a flood plain called the evrastas river. It was a difficult place to sustain people: there were no good ports in sparta thus they were not interested in a naval base.
