There is less hysteria at home but the interment camps for the japanese did exist - forced into camps, had to sell all their belongings quickly. It was justified as purity and protection, but mostly it is because of race. We dehumanized the nazi"s but also with the japanese. The reason this makes world war ii make sense because we are stopping the holocaust.
