Orthopedics deals with bone disease or disorders. Bones of adult skeleton: 206 bones make up adult skeleton, grouped into 2 divisions. Axial skeleton 80 bones; lies along longitudinal axis. Appendicular skeleton 126 bones, upper & lower limbs. Bones of the adult skull: contains 2 sets of bones. Cranial bones (8) form cranial cavity protect our senses & brain. Facial bones (14) form the face support entrances to digestive system. General features of skull: have several surface markings. Vomer (1: forms forehead, roof of eye socket (superior part), & much of the anterior part of the cranial floor, surface features. Frontal squama thick, scalelike plate of bone that forms the forehead. Supraorbital margin thickened border above the orbits, makes roof of orbit and part of the floor of the cranial cavity. Supraorbital foramen supraorbital nerve and artery pass through. Frontal sinuses hollow spaces where sinuses are kept.
