If i"m efficient, it doesn"t mean im automatically effective. Efficient organizations tend to be effective ones, however they are not guaranteed to be effective. The more you concern yourself with lowering costs, it becomes more. The phenomenon where managers hire less competent people to avoid being outdone/outworked by said new employees and possibly being replaced at their own positions. Both, as an academic discipline it"s a science, in practice it"s more of an art form. The industrial revolution transformed the way work was performed. Products passed through ultiple levels of unskilled labors, this created the need for management to coordinate this process. Cutting costs, oriented towards efficiency, with the belief that if we cut costs, we"ll be more effective. When companies downsize, workers who are left are forced to do other"s jobs and then become overworked, this leads to a decrease in productivity and they burn out . Management is usually most effected by corporate downsizing.
