Tyranny, no personal rights or liberties: rule by the few aristocracy/oligarchy, aristocracy: wealthy individuals, oligarchy: other resources. But otherwise, the market and protection of personal liberties should prevail: no governmental inference in personal liberties. This graph gives a perspective from 1974 to 2009 about how americans perceive their political ideologies. Overtime, fewer individuals consider themselves moderate and an increase of individuals that consider themselves conservative or liberal. We have a more ideologically aligned population, and that can cause problems in terms of trying to reach consensus and find that middle ground. Complaints of the colonists: major complaints revolved around the funding the expenses associated with governing the colonies. Colonists were unhappy with the taxes imposed on them. There were many prominent individuals that called, not for reform, but separation.
