Gustav theodor fechner (1801-1887) became scientific by paying attention to physiological events. Father was village preacher, like his father before him, when he died he moved in with uncle preacher. Leipzig university -> medical degree + entire career = Admired science, way to pursue it was his degree but never practiced medicine/ used it for training. After degree @ 22, decided to study further (independently) in math/ physics. Leibzeig, to study on his own and made a living translating texts from french to german and because of it became known as physicist. University knew of him and offered physics teaching job and space for experiments (not paid). Did all 3, for 6 years while (got married) published 7/year major articles in physics. Then university decided to offer full professorship in physics and physiology (german system last rights then professorship) great honor at his 33. He damaged his vision by doing experiments on light after image stuff like hering.
