R related 2 eachother & the characteristics of grps influencing our behavior: we are affected by the structure and we are affecting the structure of society--affected through status, roles, group, organization, institutions. Norm we wear clothes (applies to everybody) Status set: female, lsu student, daughter (the master status) Role set the many roles we have. Role perception: student works hard; parent loves kid. Role performance may not go along with perception. Role ambiguity how we r supposed 2 behave w/ a particular person. Role strain (single role) single mother; depends on identity. Role conflict (multiple roles) lsu student, you want to study & party. Five social interactions: exchange, cooperation, competition, conflict, and coercion (exchange is not fair) (abused wife is scared to leave) Social groups (sociology): interaction, belonging, interest, or organization. Primary: roomie; a small group of ppl who interact in a personal way.
