Values- symbolic culture in action; knowing the values & norms of a group help one understand their beliefs & ideals. ~ a set of shared beliefs a group of people consider to be worthwhile or desirable in life (good, bad, right, wrong); values articulate the essence of everything a cultural group cherishes and honors. Norms- rules and guidelines regarding what kind of behaviors are acceptable. Informal= implicit and unspoken (folk ways= etiquette; mores=of moral significance, cannibalism)
