Document Summary

Chapter one study guide: evolution is a theory that over time species changed. So once we were apes and now we are humans. For example, when you get a box of bicycle parts and you have to put them together for it to transport you somewhere, otherwise it is useless. A biological example would be tissue cells since individually they do not do anything but together they protect the skin: bec-poo-tcom. Biosphere, ecosystems, communities, population, organisms, organ and organ systems, tissues, cells, organelles, molecules: without structure there is not function. The difference between prokaryotes and eukaryotes is that prokaryotes have no nucleus and eukaryotes have a nucleus: the structure is a double helix (two single strands together). The single strand has the nucleotides labeled a-t-c-g. nucleotides are chemical building blocks. A nitrogenous base, a 5-carbon sugar, and one phosphate is in the nucleotide. From smallest to large it would go: species, domains, family, order, class, phylum, kingdom, domain.
