When i hear the term fantasy , one of the first thoughts that comes to mind is. William shakespeare and the wild endeavors he wrote about in many of his plays. Specifically, in his play a midsummer night"s dream, fantasy (combined with love, confusion, and chaos) create a setting that one of the character"s, nick bottom, thrives in. Bottom is one of the actors in a theater troupe in athens, and, when the play begins, the troupe is practicing to perform the play pyramus and thisbe for theseus" wedding. Bottom is one of the most interesting characters in midsummer, because although on the surface he seems arrogant and hot-headed, he has moments of incredible wisdom and clear thought. Ultimately, bottom"s character is a provider of comic relief, but there is more to him than what is said in the text of the play. In a midsummer night"s dream, bottom is described as courageous, outgoing, and self-confident.
