Mechanism of action & drug effects: not anti-inflam, no cardiac or gi risk, no reye"s syndrome. Toxicity: max intake in 24hrs= 3000 mg (elderly 4000 mg) Interactions: increase risk to liver w/alcohol, antidote for od= iv acetyl cysteine within 10 hrs. Uses: analgesic, anti-inflam, antipyrectic, asa: antiplatelet aggregation. Action: inhibit leukotriene or prostaglandin pathways, block cyclooxygenase enzyme (cox, asa: interferes w/platelets ability to clump together to stop bleeding. Contraindications: ulcers, vit k deficit, pregnancy, breastfeed. Adverse effects: gi bleed, renal failure (esp if dehydrated), pulmonary edema, cardiac risk (first weeks of treating) Toxicity/management: usually only asa stop the drug, iv fluids, dialysis if severe other. Over making or under excreting uric acid collects in tissue/joints.
