Document Summary

For this paper i chose to write about a complication of obesity, cardiovascular disease (cvd), which is the number one leading cause of death in the united states. Through lecture i learned that if you have a really high bmi or are classified as obese, then you have a higher chance of premature death or a reduced life expectancy. Specifically, if you have abdominal obesity then you are at a higher risk to have coronary heart disease, which can lead to death. This is due to the fact that increased body fat increases specific risk factors for cardiovascular disease. For example, increased hypertension (high blood pressure) and increased dyslipidemia (high cholesterol) are risk factors for cardiovascular disease due to high levels of body fat in the abdomen. Some common types of cardiovascular diseases that can arise from obesity are cardiomyopathy, ischemia, and arrhythmias.
