Early on in life, infants see the world in the same way that adults do. Visual perception- majority of work on our visual perception. Originally thought early perception poor- not true. Preferential looking used to test infants" visual acuity. By 8 months acuity is as sharp as adults. Very poor color vision in first month- preferring red and blue after first month. Relatively poor visual scanning- short, jerky movements- trouble tracking moving objects (scanning restricted to high contrast areas because of poor contrast sensitivity) Look at the edges of a complex shape. Pattern perception- perception requires integrating information into coherent and meaningful patters and wholes - by 7 months they see it too.
