One receptor complex activates hundreds of g proteins (amplification). There are many different types of g proteins. The human genome contains 15 genes for subunit, 5 genes for subunits and 10 genes for the subunit. As the alpha-subunit disassociates from the beta/gamma subunit, the alpha subunit then slides down the membrane until it gets to adenylate cyclase. Adenylate cyclase catalyzes camp formation from atp (adenylate cyclase takes atp and makes camp) When g-protein is activated, the beta-gamma subunits diffuse away this opens up a new surface for binding. This new surface for binding interacts with adenylate cyclase induces the active conformation c-amp cascade. When epi binds to the b-adrenergic receptor, that signal is transmitted through the receptor and now its activated. G-proteins are bound to the receptor when the receptor is activated, then the gdp (inactivated form) is exchanged for gtp (activated form) gdp dissociates and. Then the activated g-proteins activate adenylate cyclase this makes more camp.
