Supposed to be exposed to things to build up your immune system. Mutation more important in prokaryotic world- most of dna expressed, active genes. Mutation so readily expressed, passed on faster: helps them adapt and survive, adapt faster. Eukaryotes- lot of dna that is never expressed, a lot of it is from a viral source: not every mutation has a huge effect, there"s a lot of prokaryotes in eukaryotes. Major sources of mutation: radiation, mistakes (ex. during replication, viruses- actively moving things back and forth, organic chemicals. Asexual reproduction-rapid population growth but not much diversity. Species don"t decide what traits are beneficial, nature decides. Nature tries to give us signals for our selection of mates. Genetic change comes from change of amino acid sequence of proteins. Polygenic inheritance: skin color: many things are controlled by multiple genes/alleles, we all produce melanin it just depends how much you make that determines your skin color.
