Anthropology: study of humans (anthropos + logia: general perspective, culture and evolution, specific societies one at a time. Ethnology: method of cultural anthropology which studies specific societies: helps us understand our culture so we can all live together. The main aspects: past artifacts, biology, language: very center of how we understand, powerful means of understanding how others express themselves and understand the world, culture. We need to see contrast by learning about other perspectives: we are way too embedded in the status quo. We are so used to seeing the same image that we don"t feel the need to check again. We think every similar object and context should look the same way: ex: simulation pilots landing on top of another plane; gorilla on the screen during the baseball game. The daschund: she thinks that it is a cat instead of a dog because she has a mental image that all dogs are large.
