Document Summary

All stats from the book unless stated otherwise: why is social change so hard to achieve. As shown with the political system in the us, some people have greater ability to affect changes or prevent changes from occurring. Simply put, certain people have larger amounts of power than others and more in uences on the laws that govern our societies. To prevent multinational corporations from cutting down forests to create factories, governments, who possess the most power, must step in and drive these also highly powerful business away. Citizens can push for change, but rarely do they ever accomplish it. The reason why it has been so hard to change big income inequality or environmental issues is because of the second dimension of power. This dimension involves situations in which some actors prevent others from getting alternative ideas proposed or even considered in the rst place. In today"s world, governments are in charge of setting the agenda.
