Long extension that carries signals away from the cell body to other neurons. Myelin sheath: axons are coated in a substance called myelin, a fatty substance protects the axon and facilitates movement of electrical signals down the axon. Sometimes to referred to as white matter: degradation of myelin = multiple sclerosis. Synapses: place where dendrites and axons meet, men/women, white/gray matter. Inside of a neuron is filled with negatively charged particles (ions) and some positively charged ions.
