Heart must work harder, as arterial pressure increases odds of rupture, hemmorage, stroke, etc. increases atherosclerosis: artery blocked by plaque. Due to fat accumulation that stick to inside of arterial wall- makes less elastic and hold smaller. Causes inflammation coronary heart disease: atherosclerosis: narrowing of arteries angina pectoris: periodic chest pains, reduced oxygen supply to heart myocardial infarction: heart attack due to cutoff of oxygen to heart muscle. Stroke: cerebrovascular accident that results in damage to brain due to lack of oxygen caused by usually atherosclerosis or arteriosclerosis. Ischemic stroke: most common, plaques or clot obstruct artery. Hemorrhagic stroke: blood vessel in brain bursts, pushing brain against skull. Associated with high bp, which stresses artery walls until they break or expose a weak spot in artery wall (aneurysm) that balloons out. Coronary angiography: most accurate way to diagnose chd, cardiac catheter (thin tube) threaded through artery into aorta to reveal blockage.
