Purpose:
The purpose of this lab was to investigate the temperature changes caused by the evaporation of
several liquids. These results, in conjunction with the intermolecular forces known to be present,
were used to predict, and then measure, the temperature change for several other liquids.
Procedure:
The procedure for this experiment can be found on pages 19-21 in “General Chemistry
CHE111L Laboratory Manual Spring 2017.”
Data Tables:
Carbon copies of the data table have been attached to the back of this lab report.
Calculations:
1. T= T1- T2
a. Ethanol: 21.88C – 8.841C = 13.039C
b. 1-Propanol: 22.04C – 15.14C = 6.900C
c. 1-Butanol: 22.92C – 18.96C = 3.960C
d. n-Pentane: 22.50C – 9.242C = 13.258C
e. Methanol: 22.18C – 4.110C = 18.070C
f. Acetone: 22.41C – 4.804C = 17.606C
g. n-Hexane: 22.82C – 10.22C = 12.600C
h. 2-Butanone: 24.08C – 9.947C = 14.133C
