When jamestown was settled it was done by 104 english men and this colony settlement and discovery was sponsored by the virginia company of london. The va company was a group of investors who hoped to be able to make a profit from this discovery and settlement. King james i chartered the company to support english national goals of expansion, and converting others to their religious beliefs, england wanted to have the ability to sell more goods and resources to other countries. The charter made included the right to establish colonies in virginia and extended all rights of englishmen to colonists.
