H2 make acid so h2 inhibitors stop the production of acid. There are h3 and h4 receptors but drugs for these are in investigation. H3 induces wakefulness (h3 there are no drugs in market) Glutamic acid is converted to alpha-keto-glutarate with the enzyme glutamate. In order for a drug molecule to reach its target, it needs to avoid metabolism. It can be regarded as a hurdle or a protection. If you see, drug molecules are designed to treat disease but the body doesn"t know this, so it will treat the drug molecule as a xenobiotic (foreign substance). The body wants to get rid of it by increasing its water solubility. The drug molecule is designed to get into the system to site of action so they are very lipid soluble. The drug metabolism is meant to increase water solubility and ultimately become eliminated. For the body to get rid of it, it has to convert it to more soluble compounds.
