This is to serve as a guide to help you prepare for the exam. You should review key information from the chapters and discussions in class. You should be able to define key terms, apply real life situations, and discuss in a sport context the following: Gender: how the person identifies regardless of their biological sex. Sexual prejudice: negative attitudes held toward an individual because of that person"s sexual orientation. Homophobia: the dread that heterosexuals feel toward sexual minorities (personal, interpersonal, institutional, cultural) Heterosexism: cultural system of arrangements that privileges heterosexuality and casts a negative light on individuals who are lgbt and their behaviors, relationships, and communities. Refers to the larger, societal system that privileges heterosexuals and casts sexual sexual minorities as sexual-class citizens. People who are lgbt are twice as likely as their heterosexual counterparts to experience some form of prejudice: 90% of lgb youth have heard sexually prejudice remarks at their school, including from teachers and administration.
