MAXIMAL ANAEROBIC FITNESS TESTING
A) Purpose: 1) To demonstrate advanced methods of determining
2) To familiarize students with data obtained from a wingate
Anaerobic or maximum muscular power: ability to exert high force while
contracting at a high speed.
The tests are short, max speed, and produce high power outputs
1-RM for Explosive Exercises (power clean, snatch, push jerk)
Margaria-Kalaman Test (time to sprint up staircase)
Increasing the weight lifted leads to decreased speed and vice versa.
Power ouput = work/time OR force x velocity
force x distance
Force = mass x acceleration
Power output: ability to exert a force at a given speed (a.k.a "speed strength")
(expressed as Watts or Watts/kg)
Review: the force production of a muscle is determined by the
crossbridges attached to the actin filament.
-depends on CQmbinatigg of stored ATP and anaerobic pathway components for
0-30 S =
Peak power: highest mechanical power generated
Average power: average mechanical power generated
Anaerobic fatigue: % decline
power compared with peak power
-max rate of energy production by combined phosphagen and lactic acid energy
systems for moderate duration (up to 2 min.)
-quantified as max power output during 30 and 90 second
