Purpose:
1)
To
demonstrate advanced methods of determining aerobic
B)
capacity
2)
To
familiarize students with data obtained from a
V02max
test using the ParvoMedics metabolic cart.
This lab will be composed
of
a progressive exercise test that includes direct
assessment of
V02max
for the specific mode of testing, ventilatory threshold,
RER
at
V02max.
and relative workloads as assessed
.Qy
both HR and
VOg.
Procedures:
One volunteer will perform a maximal fitness test on the treadmill. Although,
the rowing
or
bicycle ergometer
may
be used when appropriate as maximal
aerobic testing is mode specific. The protocols for the different modes of
testing are provided
for
future reference. All protocols include the following
characteristics:
A.
Initial determination of maximal HR
B. Fitting of Polar HR monitor chest strap on subject
C. Calibration of exercise equipment
D.
Subject warm-up
E.
Fitting of headpiece and respiratory mouthpiece
F.
Begin test on computer system (Bruce modified for 15% treadmill)
-the test should completed within 8-12 min
