Document Summary

Procedure: see page 13 of my laboratory manual for a breakdown of the general procedure to be followed. In this experiment, we used the spectrophotometer values to determine the formation constant of different solutions. The average kffrom my calculations came out to be 1. 1 x 10 , and the textbook value for the formation constant of [cu(nh ) ] is 1. 7 x 10 . My average kf is a little bit below the optimal value, but still pretty close. Test tube #1 (with a kf of 5. 6 x 10 ) was the closest to the number given in the textbook out of all the other calculations. My partner and i did have some difficulties with the lab, so it is a relief to see that our average was close to the correct value. several errors made. Despite following the procedure very closely, my partner and i did not find any precipitate in our test tubes after centrifuging.
