Document Summary

Exam three is scheduled for wednesday, november 5. This test will consist of only objective questions and no short answer questions. Kant believes that god gave man reason and with that, humans can discover moral rules by using reason. By giving man reason god also gave him morals. Teleological theories base judging whether an action is right or wrong from the consequences of that action where as deontological theories base good or bad off the character of the action rather than the consequences or outcomes. Kant is an egalitarian because he believes that the possession of rationality puts all beings on the same footing. Kant believes that all men should be treated as an end not a mean and therefore should be treated as equals. (2nd formulation ci) Bentham and mill would argue that using a person as a means to an end would not be bad if it saved others.
