Document Summary

12 of the 13 states sent delegates to the constitutional convention. 55 delegates- the framers of the constitution. Middle aged- average was 43, youngest 26, oldest 81 (ben franklin) Soldiers- officers mostly if you had the ability to raise and fund a military unit. Rank was based on how much you could bring and create. Closed meeting- no one in, no one out of the room. Articles of confederation cannot be fixed, but must be replaced- contrary to their purpose and came up with this after 1 day"s work. No legal authority to make decision but no one knows what they are discussing, so states can"t do anything. Need 13 states to ratify the document. 4 states would not sign it, 3 states were maybes, 6 would sign it. Anti-federalists never called themselves that, also gave clue to who won. Anti-federalists couldn"t agree on why they were against ratifying it.
