shop for goods and services, play games or access other sources of entertainment.
Because technology changes you must keep up with the changes to remain digitally literate.
Digital literacy involves having a current knowledge and understanding of computers, mobile
devices, the web, and related technologies.
Digital literacy- involves having a current knowledge and understanding of computer mobile
devices, the web, and related technologies.
A computer is an electronic device, operating under the control of instructions stored in its own
memory, that can accept data(input), process the data according to specified rules, produce
information (output), and store the information for future use. Computers contain many electric,
electronic, and mechanical components known as hardware.
Pc personal computers that can perform all of its input, processing, output, and storage activities
by its self.
Server- a computer dedicated to providing one or more services to other computers or devices on
a network. A network is a collection of computers and devices connected together, often
wireless. A serve can support from 2 to several thousand connected computers and deices at the
same time.
Data and information:
Input:
Users have a variety of input options for entering data into a computer many of which involve
using an input device.
An input device is any hardware component that allows you to enter data and instructions into a
computer or mobile device.
Keyboards, mice, computer ones not the ones that eat cheese touch screens microphones,
scanners.

Memory and Storage:
Memory consist of electronic components that store instructions waiting to be executed and the
data needed by those instructions. Some forms of memory are permanent, most memory keeps
data and instructions temporary, which means its contents are erased when the computer is shut
off.
Storage holds data, instructions, and information for future use.
Computer stores data on storage media like usb drives hard drives etc.
Storage device- records writes or retrieves reads items to and from storage media.
Solid state drives are a hard drive that uses flash memory to store data. They are more durable
because they contain no movement parts.
Software is a program which consist of a series of related instructions, organized for a common
purpose, that tells the computer what task to perform and how to preform them.
Chapter 4 Programs and APPS
An application or app sometimes called application software, consist of programs designed to
make users more productive and or assist them with them with personal tasks.
An operating system is a set of programs that coordinates all the activities among computer or
mobile devices.
Other programs often called tools or utilities, enable you to preform maintenance type tasks.
The operating system and other tools are collectively known as system software because they
consist of the programs that control or maintain the operations of the computer and devices.
Each time you tart a computer the OS is loaded from the computer’s hard drive into the memory.
Once loaded the OS coordinates all the activates of the computer. Runs aps transfer data among
input and output devices and memory. While the computer or mobile device is running, the
operating system remains in the memory.
Cad computer aided design software helps in creating engineering, architectural and scientific
designs and models.
Disk clean up tool searches and removes unnecessary files. Disk defragmenter is a tool that
reorganizes the files and used space on a computer HD so the OS access data more quickly and
programs run faster.
