Harmony: the way in which chords are arranged in a musical composition. Unison: wo or more notes sounding the identical pitch, usually though not necessarily at the same time. In a number system with semitone = 1, tone = 2, the unison (cid:858)interval(cid:859) is equivalent to zero. Harmonic: a multiple of the fundamental frequency that is associated with complex periodic waveforms, such as those produced by musical instruments. Consonance: a combination of sounds producing a feeling of stability, or of little desire for resolution. Dissonance: a combination of sounds that produce harsh, discordant results, and increase the desire for resolution. Homophony: a musical texture with one voice (or melody line) accompanied by chords; also used as an adjective (homophonic). Polyphony: having more than one voice part at the same time. Dynamics: 1) the amount of fluctuation in level of an audio signal. Staccato: a style of playing notes in a detached, separated, distinct manner, as opposed to legato.
