How does it differ from public health or global health: community and public health aim to assure conditions that enable people to maintain their health. Community health- a group of individuals- geographic location, shared identity, Public health- the overall notion of looking at the health of populations (geographic location, identity factors, etc. ) Individual health- individual ability, reliant on both individual behavior and larger societal factors: core functions of public health: Assessment- systematically collect, analyze & make available information on healthy communities. Policy development- promote the use of a scientific knowledge base in policy and decision making. Assurance- ensure provision of services to those in need: social determinants of health- economic and social conditions and their distribution among the population that influence individual and group differences in health status. Other important points: the prevention parable- there is a stream where people are drowning.
