GEOG 170 Study Guide - Midterm Guide: Pythagorean Theorem, Mrsid, Voronoi Diagram
Document Summary
Distinguish between primary and secondary data, and support your discussion with both data capture examples of raster and vector data under primary and secondary data category. The two main data capture methods are primary and secondary. Primary data is a direct measurement done by the user whereas secondary data is reused data from earlier studies or it is found from other databases. The raster data model is a representation of the world as a surface divided into a regular grid of cells. Some examples of raster data under the primary data category would be digital remote sensing images/aerial photographs. For instance this could include thermal heat detection used to detect people or animals from helicopters or planes. In this instance the user would be taking the pictures him/herself therefore it would be a primary raster data. This is incredibly helpful especially for detectives and also weathermen.
