Darwin begins origin of species with a description of artificial selection: selective breeding for traits that breeders prefer leads to extreme differences. Artificial selection can cause crops, livestock, and pets to bear little resemblance to wild ancestors: humans have selectively bred dogs for particular desired traits, as a result, today"s domestic breeds differ from each other and wild wolves.
