Actualism- notion that the fundamental physical and chemical principles that humans observe operating today have been operating through earths history. Catastostrophism- asserted that global processes happened through catastrophes and not gradually over time. Uniformitarianism- the present is the key to the past . Rock- interlocking/ bonded grains of matter which are typically composed of single minerals. Mineral- naturally occurring inorganic solid element or compound with specific chemical composition. Bedrock- interconnected set of rocks in earths crust that is between the loose soil and sediment. Outcrops/exposures-bedrock surfaces that stand exposed and ready to use. Igneous- formed by the cooling of molten material and hardens/crystalizes: extrusive/volcanic- when molten material reaches earth surface through cracks and fissures then cools, intrusive- when molten material cools and hardens within earth. Weathering- collective term for the chemical and physical process that break down rocks of any kind. Erosion- the process that loosens pieces of rock and moves them downhill.
