Sociology scientific study of social behavior and human groups. Focus on: how relationships influence people"s attitudes and behavior. Popular in usa because we have a very diverse pop: how societies develop and change. C. wright mill"s sociological imagination: awareness of the relationship between an individual and the wider society. Has to do with where you were born/grew up and when you were born. Ex: in 1960"s child obesity was very rare-before fast food, kids played outside; now in 2016 1 in 3 children are obese. Intersection of geography and social who you hung out with, where you grew up: ability to view society as an outsider would, looks beyond limited understanding of human behavior, coding: taking the language and putting it into categories. Science body of knowledge obtained by methods on systematic observation: natural science study of physical features of nature, social science study of social features of humans and the way they interact and change.
